With reference to The Odyssey/The Iliad Background Info Video, what did it make you contemplate regarding archetypal patterns? Homecoming? Pride? The hero? Divinities? Heroic Code? Guest/Host? This video made me think about new things like when they talked about how gods were put almost in the same situation as the humans they protect and such, but since they do not go through the intense struggles as the humans, they do not get the same hero image. But this hero image for heros can create egos and hubris, which can ruin the heros eventually.
The odyssey means long voyage and it makes sense because the book the odyssey is about him finding his home and his journeys. Odysseus was first introduced in the Iliad but is the main character in the odyssey. Some reoccurring characteristics in greek mythology is that the heroes always have to face their own problems and face their negative characteristics such as lying like Odysseus. His journey started with a hero mistake but still was one of the greatest heroes. His pride of himself made him suffer consequences with Posieden in control of the seas.
The thing that really stuck out to me was how they didn't regard the gods as gods but they were more so like the behind the scenes guys and that they were the basis for nature and then human nature.
It stuck out to me how in myth's you see a very relatable story. There is always a hero going through struggles which relates to most people. Everyone has hopes to be something great and these myth's are those success stories. -Zeke
Heroes are often very prideful, and can cause them trouble. Homecoming is also a big part of a hero's journey because they have often been far away and can become homesick-Emma
The courage the Odyessus shown through all his stories, when he prevailed through the power of poseidon, sacrificed his men to a beast, and disguised himself as a bagger to win in his wife back inspired me to take more risks in life. - parker
The video made me think about how the guest/host relationship is not always a good relationship. What I mean by a good relationship is that the host sometimes opposes the guest and the guest sometimes isn't thankful towards the host. This quote from the video proves my point. "What became a very bad trip started with a host's poor manners and a hero's mistake, a big mistake." The video also enforced the idea that greek heroes are excessively prideful. This quote from the video proves my statement. "But Odysseus wouldn't Odysseus if he chose to be remembered as no man." This quote proves that greek heroes are always excessively prideful because it is saying that Odysseus thought highly of himself that he wanted someone to remember him.
