What subtle or overt differences did you notice regarding the Book IX The Odyssey reading and The Odyssey film clip of the Cyclops episode? Explain, note, argue, quote, and defend. They try to win him over a lot more and try to convince him to befriend them and let them out. He is also complementing him and not as many people have died before they try and get him drunk and escape. Also no music was being played and they didn't try and kill him vs just trying to get him to let them out.
The Cyclops does not welcome them very nicely, but they also laugh at Cyclops. The Cyclops eats and kills the men, which is not very hostly. They give him potent wine to deceive him, which matches what the book says. Odysseus goes by Nobody just as in the story, so he can't tell the gods who attacked him I think. They stab him in the eye so he can not see, and then they leave.
The book spends a lot of time explaining that Odysseus is the ultimate celebration and the Cyclops is too dumb to defend himself when he needs to stand up for himself. In the video, the cyclops seems to be represented as big, scary, intimidating and irritated with everything the soldiers do. The cyclops seem to be easily fooled and tricked by the soldiers, no music is played to get the cyclops to fall asleep.
In the book there is not anything said about music but in the film there is music being played. The overall story of the scene and the book is very similar. -zeke

Movie version seems to be overall more streamlined and with less small details than the text. The gods are mentioned less than in the written myth. They simply escape through the open door rather than hiding under the sheep.
There is no music played in the book like there is in the film and in the film they are joking and laughing much more than they were in the book.
Odysseus is being what he thinks is a good guest, but the cyclopes is not a good host. They seem to try to befriend him more than in the story.
A difference I noticed between the text and the film is that in the film, Odysseus and his men try to befriend the Cyclops at first instead of being aggressive like they were in the text. In the film, Odysseus and his men are less prideful than they are in the text. The Cyclops also drank wine in the film. In the text, he only drank milk.
