He has super strength because he is the son of Zues and a Mortal which is why he is not a god but a demi-god. Hera makes him kill his family and makes him go do labors which are meant to kill him but does not.

Before reading this myth, I knew that Hercules was a demigod and completed the 12 Labors and went on all these great adventures but I didn't know that he killed his parents or that the Labors were set forth for him by Apollo. This myth was very interesting to read because it gave me some more background about the hero that I previously had not known. I like how Hamilton sets up the story because for many people who only know the heroic acts of Hercules, it tells us a little more about his parents and his background and more detail into the basic heroic acts we all learn. I think Hercules can be considered a hero but in order to be a hero, he had to do some not-so-heroic things that are overlooked to keep his image pure and heroic.

Addison R:

I previously knew little about Hercules, just that he was born of Zeus & a human. We learned that because of Hera's extreme jealousy, she practically possesses Hercules & makes him kill his family. Because of this, Hercules forever tries to make himself feel at peace with what he has done. We learn throughout the myth that Hercules is an extremely passionate, emotional, and not at all rational person. He acts purely based on how he feels in the moment, and never stops to think about his actions. Since he acts this way, he has the temper of, some would say, a five-year-old. Always on the brink of a meltdown or tantrum. Even though he is the strongest and most adored, he is so immature in the way he acts and behaves.

From past knowledge, I know that He is the son of Zeus and a mortal he is extremely strong, and pretty much everything he does comes easy to him except books and more intellectual stuff. He completed the 12 labors killing every monster with ease and showing everyone his power He was very rich and had a lot of influence over people because of his status after completed the labors label as "favorable by the gods" since he did live down of the earth, not in mount Olympos because he was stolen from his crib when he lived there. At least in the Disney show that's what happened.

Before reading the myth of Hercules all I knew about him was that he was mortal with super human strength. The reason I got that was because when I was younger I used to watch the Disney's version of Hercules so that's how I knew. After reading the myth I know a lot about Hercules. For example, I found out that Hercules had a spell put on him that made him go insane and because of that spell, he killed his wife and all of his children. Another thing I learned was that Hercules was very into his feelings. If he was happy he was SUPER happy, or if he was mad he'd be SUPER mad and out of control. I kind of can relate to that but that is besides the point. All in all I really like Hercules's story and would recommend it to other people even it is a little morbid.

When I look back and think about all of the videos and reading from the text we did, it was like I was being told two different things. Most of the videos all showed his strength and how he saved everyone and everything that needed it. The videos talked more about his exploits I guess you could say. But, I feel as if the text reading focused on his emotion and the things he went through not only mentally but also physically. Some things we know or found out, he is very strong, know as the "Saver" to everyone, and son of Zeus but he has to give up a lot for his family.

before reading, I knew he was part god and that he's strong, killed the hydra, and a giant boar, and walked a long time to find where he belonged. I didn't even know he was the son of Zeus. when ever the movie came on I never payed attention. So I didn't know much about him until reading. I didn't know he had to kill his family, was sent on trials that were designed to kill him.

Before reading the myth, I didn't have much background on Hercules. I had only seen parts of the movie, so I knew he had to do tasks, but I wasn't sure how many he had to do or why he had to do them. I just knew that he was really strong. After reading Hercules, I discovered that Hercules had to perform 12 labors, as a punishment from the god Apollo. I also discovered that Hercules was very emotional, I originally thought that Hercules was kind of perfect. I also learned that Hercules got a lot of help from gods, and didn't do it all on his own.
