The Iliad connects to the guest host relationship because it talks about hospitality when traveling. It says that if no one were to offer hospitality to travelers, then no one would be traveling (because they couldn't get a place to stay or food if they needed it). The Iliad and the Odyssey also connect to the Heroic code because it shows honor and bravery.

Both Illiad and the Odyssey connect to bravery and honor, through the Heroic Code, but the Illiad more pertains to guest/host interactions. According to the video, "Xenia" was known as taking in random travelers. Which we'd consider dangerous, but then, both people would benefit. The host would learn information about the world outside him that he perhaps didn't know, but the guest gets a place to stay, it's mutual.

After learning about the thousands of stories the Iliad has to offer, I noticed that most greek literature is the same. A lot of greek divinities love beauty and it comes before anything else, like money, and in every hero story, there is someone who sways the story by their beauty. There is always a guest-host relationship in these stories and one host always gets punished and one helps the gods and in return receives good things. These things make a hero a hero, but it does not always mean they are a hero when they do these things.

With the ideas presented in The Iliad: Greek Epic video, I was able to better understand many of the different heroic elements but the elements that were most present were heroic and hubris. I was able to understand heroic a little better because it was used many times throughout each of the pieces of literature. For example in these pieces, there were phrases such as “He fell thunderously and his armour clattered upon him.” This shows how heroic this soldier was in his fighting and the vocabulary used in the literature adds effect to the phrase, which is able to make him seem more heroic.

The idea of the guest/host relationship and how important it is to the gods and goddesses. People that were more willing to accept someone into their home found great favor among the gods and were awarded for their hospitality. The expectation was that people must follow Zeus' rule and open their home for anyone who needed it. Obviously there are some dangers to that and if the person were to not appreciate the hospitality or abide by their rules, the gods would look down on them

After looking into the Iliad and the Odyssey further, I noticed that the language is kind of the same, considering both came from the same time period. But I think that this video gives me a better understanding of Xenia and how it was important to the Greeks back then. It also gave me a better understanding of guest/host relationship by explaining further more in xenia.

After watching the video, I noticed that the Iliad has a lot Heroic Code in it. It has a lot to do with bravery and honor, and that was shown in the video. Also, I noticed that guest/host relationship existed in the story. THe people in the towns had to have hospitality towards their guests so the guests are happy while they are there. If hospitality didn't exist, then no one would travel.

This helped me better understand Xenia and how it explained why everyone was always hospitable towards heroes in mythology. It was also interesting to see how Xenia prevented a fight between Diomedes and Glaucus, and how it was something that was honored and respected.

The Iliad references the idea of xenia very much because the entire war is based off of rash actions of Peris being a guest of the Greeks. Its an extreme example of the idea of guest/host relationships because countless lives and an entire city were destroyed, all because of the Trojans disrespect as guests. This gives the Greeks a whole new side to the idea of xenia. Usually it is thought that those who do not follow xenia will be punished by Zeus. Not only does it apply in everyday life, but it shows that it some instances all Greeks will uphold the idea of xenia and unite an army and rase a city because of it. Hubris will also be a recurring theme as well as it also starts with Peris's hubris.

The video deepens my understanding of the heroic elements with Xenia because it gives a visual representation of how nice people should be to other no matter what they represent. It also shows that through heroic anyone can be above the average human.

In the video it demonstrates a lot of aspects of the heroic code such as honor bravery and strength. Also the guest host relationship is involved in Xenia and shows the importance because if there wasn't that the travel would be very limited.

This video demonstrates Xenia, you see this idea that is incredibly foreign to us being used over and over again in Greek literature. This guest/host relationship is interesting, it expresses an almost naive hospitality, but as stated it is critical to Greek Mythology, as seen in the Iliad through Peris when he is a guest of the Greeks and abuses it.

It helps me understand the video by It being such an important battle between Trojans and the Greeks as for it took courage and bravery. So then the Iliad connects to the guest host relationship element because it talks about hospitality when traveling.Which they need to conqueror there battles because talking and location is important.

This video helped me establish a better understanding with the hubris and heroic code. It also helped me realize the relationships between heroes and others. People were very hospitable towards them in most situations. It gives me a good depiction on Xenia and the hospitality between others.

Both the Iliad and the Odessey connect with bravery and courage which are two parts of the heroic code. This video helped me understand the Trojan and Greek war better. This video displayed a lot of elements from the heroic code.

Within the video it clearly laid out several definitions and examples of the Heroic Elements: heroic, hubris, guest/host (Xenia)-- for instance, Xenia was a divine law given down by Zeus that explained the concept of hospitality, and required hosts to be generous and courteous to all guests (it was basically like a sacred law), which is shown throughout the entirety of Greek mythology. In the context about the story of Achilles, we see him driven by pride and hubris, thinking constantly about his own mortality. Moving forward, to be honest, the video stopped before we got to the heroic defining aspects, but I think I understand it pretty well, considering there is always a hero in virtually all myths in some way shape or form, and we've gone over the definition extensively.

The video explains the guest/host relationship as being dependent on one another which increases the importance of such a relationship to the function of a society. A guest depends on a host to provide shelter and safety while on his or her journey and the host depends on the guest to inform him or her on the outside world and the information that could threaten or improve the quality of life of the host. The two highly correlate with one another which can be explored in the explanation provided by the video.

This video shows a lot of examples of the heroic elements we have learned about. Through out the video it shows hubris, guest host relationship, and bravery. Xenia is a great example.

The big piece of information that I now understand a lot better now is Xenia. Through the video, it shows exactly why this was so important and how it worked. Zeus the most powerful god is the protector of this idea. This important idea brought a lot of important information. The video helped explain the fact of why it was so important. The fact of the matter is that Greece and basically anyone at the time was a bad place there were bandits people that would kill you. There was no motel 6’s where you could sleep in the night. This principle lets people have a way to guarantee that they will be safe if they travel. Meaning that news flows and people get to explore the world. This is shown on multiple occasions such as in Hercules when he stays with his friend or when Paris uses in to get in the king's house to steal Helen of Troy. It’s all over and this was a great way to make it more known.
