Metacognition?

“We go about our daily lives understanding almost nothing of the world. We give little thought to the machinery that generates the sunlight that makes life possible, to the gravity that glues us to an Earth that would otherwise send us spinning off into space, or to the atoms of which we are made and on whose stability we fundamentally depend. Except for children (who don’t know enough not to ask the important questions), few of us spend much time wondering why nature is the way it is; where the cosmos came from, or whether it is always here; if time will one day flow backward and effects precede causes; or whether there are ultimate limits to what humans can know.”
-Carl Sagan from an introduction to A Brief History of Time By Stephen Hawking

Thinking about your thinking is what brings about questions about nature, this lets us learn about our universe, and its nature. Everything is relative to each person, it depends on our experiences, all forms of our life are built on our experiences and are all compared through our lenses of experience.

We live in a world that has so much to offer and we let simple distractions that could further our understanding of how things came about distract us from the truly important questions in the world. While we will probably never know the full story of how we came about, we can get close or we could let our thoughts think of the impossible as possible. We could further the knowledge of our world as a community by simply conversing and questioning the things that happen in the world and why those things happen.

We live in a society that does not allow for people to think about these types of questions, because it wants us to live simply without asking questions. I feel like people have a mindset backward because we ask all these deep questions when are younger, but not when we are older due to lack of motivation and curiosity.

We live in a world where these questions are seem to be stupid questions but in reality, they are very complicated and interesting questions that should be asked because they bring up somethings people forget about.

In this world people think some people questions are stupid but really they really aren't able ask more complicated question and stick to easy ones.

Thinking about thinking is when we become self aware. When one thinks a question is simple they will start to ponder it until they think about their thinking. This could either bring on better thoughts or just cause a distraction. We will never truly know all the answers but metacognition could be the closest we get.

I believe that in our current world many people, like my own generation take things for granted. We simply drift through life not knowing what our next move is and we could care less. Many people don't think about many things, which leads them to make decisions based on judgment rather than knowledge. I believe that people need to think more in general, every day.

I think the only reason we don't think about these questions anymore is because they are outdated. Questions we used to have about the sun and the plants and things have been answered by science, and now we're asking new questions. Now we're figuring out technology and space and encountering problems we've never had before. It's not that the old questions aren't important, it's that humanity's questions are changing as time goes on, just as it should.

In today's environment, I feel like if you had said this whole statement to a scientist or any of your friends they would think one, you were crazy or two, on something. They have that option because not enough people do think and question things like what would happen without gravity. I feel that if we strived more to come closer to answer these somewhat impossible questions, we can feel better about the world itself. As humans, we should strive to think about these little questions as big matters.

My understanding of the quotation is that people don't take time to "smell the roses". It generally isn't tell later in people's lives that they begin to see how fast time goes and began to see the world in a different eye. I think it is important for someone to step out of their everyday life to explore more about themselves or the world. It could be refreshing to understand about where something came from or learn something new.

We are only used to what we know, so we tend not to question what came before us. We don't think about past inventions, or how they were created, because it doesn't affect us, the only thing that affects us is that they are here now. We limit our minds to only being open to learning what we need to, and not all of the other possible questions that we should take a deeper look to. We only care about our generation and we don't take time to look into the past and question it.

I think that we live in a world where everyone has so many questions about life but they are too afraid to ask them. I also think that our society is told what to think and we believe this to be the truth instead of learning the truth for ourselves. Finding out the answers to life is part of life. Asking questions about why we're here and who we are is so important. When your younger you see the world differently and after all of your experiences you feel that you know that world for what it is when really its only the beginning. We need to ask questions we need to learn more its just part of life.

People can take their life for granted, leaving them not to think about the small components that make it happen. People don't take time to look around in life and accept all the wonderful things. What I understand from the question is that people don't use their time to do what they want, but only what is needed from them.

I believe that children ask these questions not only because they do not know enough but because they are never frightened to ask questions. Instead of questioning ideas, adults just accept almost anything in that way. We don't question what scientist tell us because we just accept it since they usually are smarter. Although it is important to ask questions to better understand life itself, we are too caught up into other life stressors to ask basic questions that children will ask.

I believe that there are so many aspects of life that people want to know about, their just to afraid to ask about them or learn something new about them. The reason children always ask questions is because they don't understand much about anything and they aren't afraid to ask. If people started opening their minds and asking questions the world would be so much better because not everyone would be living in a shadow.

I think that context determines what questions in your life seem the most worth asking. For a kid with not much responsibility, life and the meaning of everything is what we choose to ask about. As a junior, my questions are mostly in regards to my future. And adult may be wondering more about bills, work, etc. a more free mind tends to wander outwards. Your circumstances determine what your mind drifts too.

In my opinion, adults are often too busy within their daily lives which is required of them to think about these complex and curious ideas. On the other hand, children often start with a high amount of curiosity and have more free time than adults, showing why adults don't often think about ideas such as the creation of the universe and humanity.

I feel that we know why nature does its thing and how everything happens but we dont spend enough time or thought thinking about the hows. I also believe people are more focused on the present and living life, rather than focusing on the philosophy aspect of life.

Adults in our society today as well as teens often take advantage of small important moments due to busy lives. People tae for granted the little things. We also tend to not be as grateful because we do not thin about how lucky we are all the time. I think that it is really important to stop once and a while and be grateful for things and notice the tiny things around you that are important.

I think this shows how people can miss many things and not even notice because we don't ask the questions that are needed. The world has many resources that most of us never will know about because we never ask the question. We become content in the way we like to live our lives and don't even think about the possibilities we could experience.

We live in a world where our society has deemed questions like those to be stupid. When we’re younger we aren’t really affected by the outside world, but as we get older certain things pressure us to do what society has deemed “cool” or “acceptable”. Metacognition means thinking about your thinking. When we finally use and understand how metacognition works that's when we really become self aware and start asking these types of questions without caring if society will accept us or not.

i think we need to stop and learn the hows and how this earth was created and also we think everything is normal but there is a lot of back history to everything.

Most of us think about ourselves too much and our needs from day to day. Rarely do we pause long enough to think about the world outside of our bubble.

We live as a square peg trying to be jammed into a circular hole of a high tech society. We are not meant to live as we do and it is driving our civilization to insanity and increasing the frequency of mental health problems. this comes as no surprise from the lives we live.

This quote shows how focused people are on being in the present and not thinking about anything else than what is in front of them. People address things as they come rather than approaching them early. These reason are the purpose for having people who work on answering these questions so that we can continue focusing on keeping our economies working and trade flowing.
