"The Simpsons" And "The Odyssey?"

How is The Simpsons' video clip a parody and/or satire of The Odyssey and heroes in Greek Mythology?  Please list at least one specific from the Heroic Code as you explain and defend your assessment and thinking.  This response is due during class on April 26th.

It makes fun of it a lot like how they kinda just slaughtered sleeping people and how they were seduced very easy by the songs of the sirens. It also made fun of more recent things that are still pretty touchy depending on who you ask. But it did tell the basic elements of the story Wich was nice.

The Simpsons clip is a parody of The Odyssey because it's a funny, silly way to tell the story. This way it is more entertaining and funny, while still being educational. It still involves the Trojans and the giant horse it references the Gods, just like the actual story

This episode of the Simpsons is just a clever satire of the Trojan war. They used the entire wooden horse piece as a joke and basically called the Trojans dumb. Not much else was done to really make fun of the time period other than the drunken god.

It makes fun at the idea of using a Woden hourse to get into the kingdom and why the war was going on. And the heroic code would have been to appease the gods which they did not and paid the price for doing so.

It is the Simpson's own goofy way of portraying the story of the Odyssey. In the story they ask Homer to send an animal sacrifice to the gods, but he is very prideful and says no to it. This is an example if hubris, a large part of the heroic code.

It creates comedy with a historical tale, and allows the story to be interpreted in a different way. The story is still historically accurate, but it makes for a different watching experience. Heroic code was displayed by Odysseus when he saved his men from danger.

This is a satire of Greek mythology because they go back to The Trojan War and making fun of the Trojans by showing how guiible they were. Although it's meant to be silly, it also portrays elements of the war in very clever ways such as using the wooden horse to show how senseless their actions were and how they were stupid.

The Simpson's episode is obviously a parody because there is a lot of adult humor as well as a false representation of many of the characters. Although it was a joke the story line seemed to be similar, and demonstrated some of the same points.

The Simpson's video makes fun of The Odyssey in many different ways, One specific example is that the show makes fun of how foolish these men were. They made dumb mistakes that any hero shouldn't make. For example they didn't sacrifice to the gods even though one man told them too. Hero's should not be too prideful but Odysseus obviously was and it ended up costing him his whole team and trip.Odysseus made many dumb mistakes and the Simpson's made sure to show that in the clip.

In the video clip, they are sattiring the idea of how easily the Trojans accepted the horse and let it into their city. Odysseus wanted to be recognized for his clever idea and how they were able to defeat the Trojans because of him. They held a lot of pride and refusing to make a sacrifice caused them to anger the gods, so it shows they did it to themselves and caused their own misfortune. It really plays with the idea that they didn't think things through well enough and let their pride get the better of them.

This is a satire of Greek mythology because the Simpsons use the story of the Trojan war and make fun of how simple it was to sneak the Trojan horse in and kill their people. The whole story is just made more funny and entertaining.

The simpsons pretty much portrayed the odyssey with a little bit of modernization.

This short clip of the Simpsons parading the odyssey was quite different from the actually myth. This clip featured humor and heroism. Homer was our main hero acting as the brunt force of the peope by Odysseus trying to make peace throughout everyone. This gave a good visual of an overall look on what happened in the odyssey.

When they go in with the Trojan horse, one of the soldiers said, "Spare no-one," which kind of relates to hubris, they could have made a point by only killing a few, or important people, but instead they destroyed all of Troy.

the Simpsons parody is a large example of satire of the Odessy. It shows how Herod (such as Odysseus) can get overly cocky and begin to believe that they are gods. An example of this is when Odysseus refuses to give the sacrifice of the lambs, which causes Poseidon to blow them off course. odysseus showed a lot of bravery in the Odessy.

The Simpsons video clip is a satire of the Odyssey by how they are basically making fun of the poem the entire time and don't really get all their historical facts of the poem correct, such as leaving out the cyclops and making the sirens ugly. They used heroic code by Odysseus being loyal to his wife and getting through many problems and challenges throughout the 20 year journey home.

The Simpson's version of the Odyssey is a parody due to them changing some of the aspects of the tale for humor's sake. This is shown when they Trojan horse is delivered to the Trojans and they accept it because they collect giant wooden animals. This is also shown when Zeus is told that he's no fun anymore since he doesn't turn into cows to try and get with women anymore. Homer acting as Odysseus betrays the heroic code by eating his friends when they are turned into pigs by Circe on her island. This is obviously not something a hero would do but it does lead to him following one of the other aspects of the heroic code which is acting alone, even if the reason he's alone isn't a great one.

When they were talking about Helen of Troy being the one who launched a thousand ships they said she launched them the other way. They also made fun of the way the gods made it harder to get to his home by just flicking them away.

The Simpsons paradoy of the Odyssey is very satrical and humorous. Although they got the events that occurred correct, the simpsons made the heros of the Odyssey look a little less heroic. They are portrayed as a bunch of dumb people who encountered a journey. There was many events where everyone lacked intelligence. For instance when they drank from the cauldron. Even though everyone was portrayed to be stupid, they still came back as heros

The Simpsons video is a parody of the Oddyesy and heroes in Greek mythology because it tells the story in a funny, clever way. through comedy and cartoon it still explains the Trojan war in great detail. Hubris plays a big role in this story because pride is the reason for the 20 year trip home.

The Simpsons video clip is a parody of The Odyssey because it highlights the mistakes Odysseus made on his journey back, and the foolishness of both the Greeks and the Trojans. The Trojans were tricked into accepting the horse from the Greeks. During Odysseus' journey home, he made many mistakes. First, his friends were foolish to take the drinks that turned them into pigs. There were skeletons near and it looked like poison, yet they still drank it. Odysseus also ate his friends after being told who it actually was. Finally, when Odysseus returned home to his wife after 20 years, he went out again, claiming that his wife was smothering him.

In the clip their satire was how simple and non-complex their entire plan was. When the horse was sneaked in, and when he was eating the pigs (his friends), and killing all of the men Penelope was considering marrying.

The Simpsons make light of Odysseus's journey and the struggles he faced. Things that were shown as terrible in the book are made fun of in the Simpsons. For example when Odysseus eats his friends. The Simpsons blends the characters of Odysseus and Homer to show the character in a less serious manner. Both of these stories still have the common theme of a succeeding hero. In the Simpsons he resists temptations and goes through difficult trials(although they are funny) and in Odysseus he goes through trials and resists temptations. Both are in pursuit to get back home and of power.

The Simpson's parody is a satire to Greek mythology because it nails the plot spot on but makes it humorous, the parts that were meant to be horrifying were laughed at most frequently. It puts Greek mythology in a different light and also shows how we have taken old myths/ tales and brought them back into society.

The Simpsons put the full story in a very funny and kind of informational nut shell. All of the different qualities of the hero's and the different parts of the story are explained satirically. It shows how there's mythology all around us all of the time and it does not take much to see it.

The Simpsons take the odyssey and turn it into a humorous sense. The Simpsons take the different parts from this story and create it so it is easier for us as views to understand. In this particular clip I believe the Trojans were tricked into taking the horse.

It was satirical the way that it emphasized the gullibility of the Trojans who's greatest downfall was of their own doing. It also made fun of the journey of Odysseus and his trials on his journey.
