Vase Interpretation?

Based upon Dr. Castellani's presentation and your notes, evaluate the projected black/red figure vase.  Please decode through commentary.  Think about direction, borders, placement, and symbols or manifestations.  This blog response is a quiz and should be completed during class today.

After looking at the vase I have concluded that the god on the vase is Athena. I would say this because Athena was always portrayed with a large shield and spear. Also, her helmet defies the boarder on the top, a key clue as to why this is Athena. She is also very large in scale compared to the other objects in the picture, thus why I believe that this is a god (Athena).

From Dr. Castellani’s presentation I can tell a couple of things from the red/black vase. On the neck of the vase are plants, these are a symbol of Apollo, and a boundary of mortality and immortality. And on occasion Athena would break this boundary. On this vase we know that the goddess painted, is Athena because she is wearing Athena’s golden helmet, carrying a shield, and has a spear in her hand, Athena’s weapon of choice. Athena is also facing left, or facing the immortal side. And there is also writing on the side of the vase, maybe telling us Athena’s name.

The figure on the vase is Athena and you can tell that from the helmet on her head. She's facing to the left side of the vase which is typically the 'mortal' side. On the columns on either side of her, there are roosters on top. Roosters tend to be fearsome and because Athena is holding a sword and shield, one might assume there is a battle taking place. She is probably helping a mortal in battle but because we can't see them, the vase is trying to show how mortals wouldn't always be able to see the gods, they were invisible, off on the sidelines.

The goddess Athena is on the front. You can tell it's her because she is holding up a sheild and spear. Her wepons of chose. Her helmet is going out of the border ove palm leafs meaning she is going beond her limits. This borders are made by Apollo in contrast is someone who idoalises limits placed opon to creat a higher acry. You can see on the other side their are games going on and athena is looking down at them humbly not above them god like. Next to anthna their are to rosters that even with their heads cut off will put up a fight. This is defenty in the relm of athena because of how she hates limations and her heros wont stop fighting till they are killed.

The vase projected is showing that the top of the vase is a border for mortal and immortal people not to get cross and get mixed in with each other that's what the top of the vase symbols. The lady is Athena she was always portrayed with a large shield and spear. She is facing left which is symbolizing that she is facing the mortals side and that she is mortal and nothing to do with being immortal. And there is also writing on the side of the vase, maybe telling us Athena’s name.

As I look at the vase I would say that this goddess is Athena. Mostly because it shows her carrying a shield and a spear, also wearing a helmet. She watched over the sacred olive trees and that is why this vase was filled with olive oil and given too someone. That is why I say it's Athena.

I think that the goddess on the vase is Athena. The goddess on the vase is shown with a spear and a shield, which we learned is a symbol of Greek Goddess Athena. We can also tell that this is Athena from the helmet that she is wearing. From the lines on the vase, we can learn that there are lines, or a boundary of immortality and mortality. Athena is facing left which shows the mortal side. This vase may be trying to show the differences between mortals and immortals, the boundaries, and their relationships with each other.

Athena violates the barrier with the top of helmet showing that she is ot fallowing the rules that were set into place by the gods she faces right holding the shield and spear symbolizing that she has more power than the border that was trying to keep her in check and that she is preparing for the battle

From Dr.Castellani's presentation, i can see that the vase has an Olive Tree painted on it, which is a sign of Apollo. The other God on the vase was Athen. I can tell it's Athena because she has the shield and sword, and her golden helmet. She is also larger in scale compared to everything else on the vase.

From Dr. Castellani's presentation I can tell that the painting on the vase is actually quite significant. The painting is Athena, portrayed by the spear, round shield, and her helmet. She is looking over the mortals as you can tell by the way she is facing (left). The right side is depicted as more divine. I believe the border at the top is demonstrating that nothing can be above a god or goddess, so don't try to be "better" than one. They didn't like that, especially Apollo.

Looking at the vase i would say the figure depicts a story of Athena. Based on the pictures on the vase it seems like there is mostly thing that would represent Athena the most.
