Ancient Greece and Greek mythology have both greatly influenced many aspects of our modern day society, including language, stories, architecture, even fashion brands and names of space shuttles. Words such as "therapy" and terms such as "The Oedipus Complex" are derivatives of Greek language. Spacecrafts such as the Apollo 11 and 13 are named after a Greek deity. Architectural structures such as columns and the like are still seen namely on government buildings. Homer's The Illiad and The Odyssey are considered some of the greatest epic poems ever written and are still studied even today. An irrefutable fact is that Ancient Greece is a keystone in our society, and has helped shape and create it over thousands of years.

When thinking of both Greek mythology ancient Greece it is hard not to think about the many ways that they influenced our daily lives today. Taking a look at the words we use today many of them come from Greece. We name our space shuttles Apollo after a Greek god, We name our teams the Spartans after the fierce warriors of Sparta in Ancient Greece. Another way that we can see Greek influence in our life is architecture, we use columns all the time but the very idea of columns came from ancient Greece. It is easy to see that modern society is extremely influenced by ancient Greek culture.

Truly, anything that has the words Greek or Greece in them, people would consider Greek mythology or Ancient Greece. Whenever you learn that the writers who gave the most influential writing about ancient Greece didn't even go there, anything can be Greek.

After watching the Know Thyself video excerpt and pondering Greek Myths I believe we should consider that all we know about Greek Myth are fragments pieced together. We've had to reconstruct many of the fables and myths altogether, while others have been passed down. Ancient Greece is fascinating, but it also has a lot to be discovered. As the video said we tend to think of the Greeks as philosophers and people who sit around having grapes fed to them, when in reality they had jobs to do an had to construct these temples for their gods. We only know so much about the Greeks and their gods and yet there is so much more left for us to find. We need to also try ourselves to piece the puzzle together on ancient Greece. In our world today we have grasped ancient Greece and taken many of its concepts/names and have applied them to our culture. It is smart to understand our roots and where many of our names come from, but as said before we only know so much; we must "dig up" more of the basis for Greek Myth and how it applies to us.

After watching "Know Thyslef" video, I know that the entire world uses little fragments of Greek Mythology in today's world. The words we have, architecture, culture, poems/poets, imagination, philosophy/philosophers, are all thanks to the Greeks. One example is there is a town in Wisconsin, named Sparta. And then many, and I mean MANY buildings are based of the pillars of the Greeks. We have a lot to thanks form the Greeks.

After watching Know thyself, several thing stuck out to me. One, that mythology is present in our lives much more than we think. It is in our greatest and most mundane achievements. We have the chance to learn from the the timeless life lessons these myths can teach us. However delving to deeply into myth can lead us to give them too much credence. Human thought has come a long way since these myth took shape and some of the underlying messages perhaps wouldn't apply today.

I think that an important thing to consider when studying Greek myth. and ancient Greece is how important that education and philosophy was to the Greek people. They were constantly trying to learn something new or discover something new about just humans and human life in general. The Greek people were never afraid to use their imagination either. Without imagination, we wouldn't have mythology. They were required to think about the world and come up with explanations for what went on in the world.

We should understand that ancient Greece who emphasized perfection of form, influenced the modern world, in architecture, art, music, philosophy and several others as well. The philosophys taken from the Greek myths have been re examined by scientists and theologians, and what they found was quite revolutionary, such as what the supernatural accounts, could represent or be an explaination to. The Greeks were very advanced for their times and if we study them, and their beliefs we can excavate meaning from fragments of their society, that can apply directly to ours.

After watching the video "Know Thyslef"Greek Mythology and ancient Greece are connected to each other because ancient Greece started a lot of what we now call "Greek Mythology" and how it was started. The cops used to be called "Spartas" which is known as a word used to refer to the gods and it goes back into the ancient times. Many of the common things used back then are still around today just changed in someway or another which is what mythology is about is something changing over time.

I think that it would be important to consider the significant role that Greece plays in our society, self knowledge, Greece is a fragment, Greece is seen as a perfection of form. Greece plays a role in our society by how we use Sparta as a city name in Wisconsin, the columns that we use, the democracy that we use, the Greek words that are used today, and much more. Greece is a fragment since it is in ruins in Europe, but it still has the same spirit it had in the past. Greece is seen as a perfection of form since it still has a similar view today of what was in the past. Many people still can go to Greece to rejuvenate, understand meaning, and see a similar Greece within the past.

The Greek culture is all around us. Our own understanding of relationships and personal interpretation of the world comes from the Greeks. We base our own families after the models set up in the Greek gods, parents and rebellious children. If a teenager acts out against their parents, it is seen as natural and a necessity for progress in life. Also out own interpretation of Greece has shaped the modern world. People's understanding of Greece lead to ideas like Communism and Nazism. Those leaded to conflicts that has shaped Europe and our relationship with other countries. Greeks are every where having an influence on our world. My favorite part of Greek culture is that it is incomplete, all that is left is old ruins and pieces of papyrus. But we do not have the full picture and have to use our imaginations to fill in the gaps. Left to our imaginations, we have created a whole full of excitement, courage, ingenious and passions. It is this world that our society has created from the ruins that I find amazing.

What the greek's left behind is a lot like greek fire it won't burn out even when dosed with water. Why is this, Well I think it's because we look back and see and belive to move forward we must look back at old ideas and make them better. Pholosiphers allways look at greek as a modle is because in such a short time greace became the center of the world's culter. Greek culter some how is still pure to us because we chose to look at the positive.

One thing that really stuck out to me was how the video stated that much of Greek mythology are fragments of imagination. Today, we interpret those myths and gain knowledge about Ancient Greece's civilization. We don't only gain knowledge about their civilization, but about our world today. Ancient philosophers have taught us about subjects such as math and astronomy. Ancient Greece has also influenced our architecture and culture. We even name towns and space shuttles after Greek mythology. Even though Ancient Greece existed thousands of years ago, it is still very much alive today.

In the brief excerpt from “Know Thyself”, draws Greece and Greek culture into this light sublime light. The culture given to us by the ancient Greeks, still has a highly profound affect on modern culture around the world. The Greek culture offered to us today: insights into the world of poetry, inspiration and imagination that nourished the creative world. Also including a vast influence on modern Psychology with the Oedipus Complex, helping Sigmund Freud develop a foundation for his theories; also holding host to influences in Philosophy with Friedrich Nietzsche. Greek culture as the video said truly is the “child of the universe.”

As we learn about this I think its important for us to understand the way that Greek Mythology and Ancient Greece have influenced our modern day world and how they will continue to influence our modern society. We see these things in literature, art, music, architecture and so many other aspects of our lives. One of the many examples of this is the fact that we named our space shuttles apollo after a Greek god.

After watching this video i realize how unoriginal we are in our thinking. Rather than create new names or new arts we take from centuries old ideas. When we read their literature we should view it through modern eyes and try to see why these ideas are so influential. It is important to study our background for our own self's.

Greek mythology was a huge tradition in ancient Greece and was very meaningful for most people. Greek mythology still influences the world today so I imagine the impact on Ancient Greece was huge. It inspired many novels, written in past and present.

Culture is a influenced to worlds today and of the greeks. It seems to be that these philosophers think that myths arent about religon as much as they are about culture. The gods were created by the universe not the other way around. Our culture is influenced by the greeks launage, writing and inventions. All of those are in our everyday life. We dont even realize it, considering how much it does influence our lives.

I believe that even though Ancient Greece and the Mythology behind it started thousands of years ago it made up a large portion of our culture. We have places within the United States named after Greek culture like "Sparta." Also, the way we built some of our buildings with the Arch that was discovered and used by the Greeks and we have incorporated it with our culture. It goes much further than that! Even in the literature we read today there are many mythological references or allusions. But did all of these parts really come directly from Ancient Greece? or was it also adapted by them from earlier culture?

When we think about Greek Mythology and ancient Greece we wonder and think just how much that this nation influenced the world today. Their architecture can be seen in every country around the world, Such as the United states governmental and memorial and statues. Sparta has influenced many military strategies in the world today by Chocking them off and seround them

After watching "Know Thyself" I think we should consider how Greek Mythology and ancient Greece still greatly impact us today. Whether it be in literature, music, architecture, or in culture ancient Greece still impacts us today. We should appreciate and understand what Greek Mythology and ancient Greece has done for us today.

The essence of ancient Greece is surrounding us constantly; whether it be the name one sees on the side of a ship or the name of movie title. We have a lot to learn from these ancient tales that have been passed down to us through propagation. As humans we are constantly looking for escapism tactics, and pursuing the thirst for the meaning of life. What’s funny, to me at least, is how the fundamental magnitude of human characteristics really have not changed. Although technology has increased, the human psyche one could say has not. It’s comforting to hear within the text that the gods struggled with unwanted emotions of hatred, lust and even jealousy.

Greek mythology has influenced the world today in a great way. The impact on Ancient Greece is pretty big because they have influeced our modern day society.
