My reaction to the Cupid and Psyche myth is that these two are correct. ‘“Love cannot live where there s no trust”’ (page 100) This reminds me of english literature right now, we are working on understanding the relationship between hope and fear. I have decided hope and fear are opposites but you cannot have one without having the other too. Love and trust are kind of the same thing, except love and trust almost always have to be together. If you have trust then you can love, if you have love then you have to trust but if you don’t trust then you cannot have love and if you have don’t have love then you cannot trust.

I agree with the statement that, "'Love cannot live where there is no trust.'" However, I believe in this case Cupid was asking for too much from his wife. It's one thing if she had to trust him that he would protect her or keep her safe or something like that, but he expected her to not see him for the rest of her life. That is an enormous burden for Psyche to carry, and it makes sense that she would want to see her husband. But then again, it is known that the gods are unfair, so I shouldn't be that surprised. And in the end, he forgives her, which shows that he understood his faults and demanded too much from her.

After reading the Cupid and Psyche myth, I am surprised at how trust was depicted in relationships. On page 97, “Apollo said that Psyche, dressed in the deepest mourning, must be set on the summit of a rocky hill and left alone, and that there her destined husband, a fearful winged serpent, stronger than the gods themselves, would come to her and make her his wife.” I think that this section from the book is depicting how in greek mythology, women weren’t treated well and how beasts would come after them and make them their wives. Trust is a big issue in this myth. On page 97, Psyche sits on a hilltop waiting for she knew not what terror.

The message in this myth was very powerful. It represents false rumors destroying trust in relationships. Psyche’s sisters told her, “...her husband was not a man, but the fearful serpent Apollo’s oracle had declared he would be” (99). This triggered Psyche’s curiosity and she eventually she decided to find out what her husband was. “When at last he lay sleeping quietly, she summoned all her courage and lit the lamp. She tiptoed to the bed and holding the light high above her she gazed at what lay there… No monster was revealed, but the sweetest and fairest of all creatures…” (100). She betrayed her husband all because of the lies her sisters told her. From this, I have taken the message and learned to trust my loved ones, no matter what even those closest to me say about them.

In the myth, the relationship that they give between love and trust was this: Cupid said after Psyche betrayed him was; “Love cannot live where there is not trust.” I think that this idea is true, but unfinished. In love, there is supposed to be a sense of security and faith in each other. Without that trust and faith you can’t take that chance, and most people wouldn’t even take the chance of falling in love without it in the first place. There is also the idea that when love is lost because of a lack of trust there is an never ending perusal of redemption for that love. In the story, after Psyche lost her love, she went and searched all over the place and even went to extremes such as trying to appease the hatred of Venus to get him back: “If he has no more love for me, at least I can let him know how much I love him.” and “She offered ardent prayers to them perpetually, but not one of them would do anything to make Venus their enemy.” Love cannot exist without trust, will not begin without it or last when it is vacant. You will lose that love forever until you regain that trust.

To me is says that people need to know who to trust and who not to. She doesn't know that her sisters are really just being envious so she trusts them anyways. This then leads her to not trust her husband. It shows that the people you trust just because, like your family, might not be trustworthy and they may be taking advantage of that trust for their own selfish need.

I agree that there can be no love without trust. On page 100 it says "... he saw the light and knew her faithlessness, and without a word he fled from her." This shows that Psyche didn't trust Cupid, but she had good reason because she didn't know who it was that was seeing her in the night. There was no way to be 100% sure that it wasn't a monster so she had to check and make sure, so the whole situation is a little unfair for her. It's human nature to question things. Psyche still felt love towards Cupid even though she didn't trust him completely. Like Caleb said there has to be security and faith in a relationship or else it simply won't work out and the relationship won't last long.

Though I do agree with the myth on that "love cannot live where there is no trust", I thought the story was not the best way of teaching it. Yes it did make sense because psyche was put through many horrible trials because she did not trust cupid. But in the story cupid did not even allow his wife, psyche, to look at him. And that makes me think, maybe Cupid didn't in fact trust Psyche?

"Love cannot live where there is no trust." I believe that this describes any relationship between people, whether it be platonic or romantic. How can you place your heart in someones hands if you can't trust them not to drop it? But we also have to realize that while trust must be earned, we must also try to trust. We must bridge the gap, take the leap, to reach the kind of love that we all desire. Trust and in turn they will prove trustworthy.

I do not agree with the statement “Love cannot live where there is not trust.” When I think about love and trust I think of it the other way around; Trust can not live where there is no love but love can live without trust. Trust is something that your brain decides to do after someone has proven that they are worthy of it. Love is what your heart feels. It is an emotion and emotions are uncontrollable. A relationship without trust may be considered dysfunctional or unhealthy but that does not mean that love is absent in it.

After I read Cupid And Psyche, I started to wonder if you really did need “trust” within relationships because I had always believed that you did, but once I read this I began to doubt my belief. In the end, I realized that my belief before, was right about having trust in a relationship, but that when you lose trust, you can still gain it back again. This is shown by how hard Psyche works to see Cupid again and apologize, she is super patient and never lets her hope down. Finally, Cupid sees how hard she has been working and he begins to trust her again. Now that I think about it, I bet when you are in love with someone, you're going to make a mistake once or twice, but its love that helps the two people to stitch what was torn back together again. In fact, that mistake might even create a closer relationship than before because both people acknowledge how patient the other one was to fix what happened between them. It helps everyone realize how much the other person loves the other because love isn't just words, its the actions each other take.

I completely agree that, "love cannot live where there is no trust." For love comes with trust and with out it, love will fail. This is what caused the falling out between Psyche and Cupid. Except I do think Cupid asked a bit much from Psyche. While I understand that Cupid was trying to say that if Psyche is truly in love, then what he looks like shouldn't matter. But it's only normal for one to question things at some point when she's never ever seen him and is spending her life with him as well! Killing him may have been a bit drastic, having trust and actually speaking to him may have easily solved her problem. So in conclusion to succeed in love, there must be trust or problems will arise and ruin the love.

After reading the Cupid and Pysche myth, it is clear to see the correlation between love and trust. Pysche lost Cupid's trust after she betrayed him and didn't stop looking until she found Cupid. Once she found him, the trust is regained after seeing how much she does in fact love Cupid. In life, you have to trust the fact that someone loves you, trust that they are being honest with you and that they show how they truly feel. This story is a great life lesson for everybody, and shows how important trust really is.

Blog #2:
The myth about Eros and Psyche when it comes to trust is not that surprising. Curiosity is a main characteristic that all humans share and at one point people want to know things that might hurt them. You can’t put your faith into someone you met a little over a day ago without being curious about who he or she is. Psyche was not sure if Eros was going to hurt her but she was still curious about what he would look like. As said by Psyche: “No; he was a horrible serpent and she loathed him. She would kill him-She would not. She must have certainty-She did not want certainty.” Curiosity and suspense were killing her.

The Cupid and Psyche myth is very simplistic in a way. The cliche that states "Love is blind" is very true in this myth. However, the cliche doesn't tell people to trust the love that is blind. The myth explains what happens with the trust of psyche "...and that there her destined husband, a fearful winged serpent, stronger than the gods themselves, would come to her and make her his wife." Without the trust Psyche was forced to have, then there would not have been love.

The myth Cupid and Psyche gives us insight into both truth and how it relates to love. In the myth it states, "Love can not live where there is not trust." I would agree with this statement because I believe that if you don't trust in someone you are not believing in their loyalty to you. Without this, how can any relationship be a true commitment? If you don't have faith in the other person, then essentially you are expecting the relationship to fail.

Cupid and Psyche display relationship and marital issues we still face today, trust. Psyche promises not to lay eyes on Cupid as he sleeps, she breaks her vow and Cupid leaves her. WHen Cupid's mother, Venus, hears of Psyche's disloyalty, "she left him angrily alone in his pain, and went forth to find the girl whom he had made her still more jealous." (96) After a set of rigorous tests, Psyche proves her worth and is admitted by Venus. I agree, trust is the foundation for relationships, 4000 years ago to today.

The Cupid and Psyche myth shows a good amount of trust in different relationships. I would say the trust with Psyches parents dwindles when they leave her on top of the hill for the serpent. Psyche shows a lot of trust in her "husband", since she never sees him until the end, but stays with him throughout the story. I feel psyche showed little trust in her husband when he tells her not to bring her sisters to the castle but she does, and then she goes against him again bringing them back once more. Psyche shows trust in her sisters when she believes them when they tell her her husband is an evil serpent and she should kill him. Her sisters lose her trust when she goes to kill him in the night and finds her husband is Cupid. Later in the story her trust with her husband is regained once more. I feel that the most sincere trust comes from true love, which is why she ends up with Cupid in the end.

"Love cannot live where there is no trust." This stands out to me particularly in the myth because the same is still true today. A relationship without trust will never last. Trust is a great thing, but there is a lot more that goes into love than just trust. The basis of love is friendship and the basis of friendship is trust. trust is the base of friendship and love.

After reading the Cupid and Psyche myth is that relationships really are based on trust. "Love cannot live where there is no trust." page 100. Looking at high school relationships, the ones that last are the ones that have trust. Without trust here is no love and without love there is no real relationship. Without trust relationships won’t work and they will slowly crumble and fall apart.

In the Cupid and Psyche myth proved that "Love cannot live where there is no trust." because when Psyche could not contain her curiosity and looked at Cupid. He could no longer trust her so he left.
