Can You Trust Cupid? Love?

What is your reaction to the Cupid And Psyche myth's proclamation about "trust" within relationships?

The story of Psyche and Cupid was an interesting one, though unbelievable. When people are married to each other, they usually have a lot of trust between them and they usually get married in the first place because they love each other. Trust and love tend to come hand in hand but it is possible to have one without the other. For example, I may trust my teachers and co-workers but I'm not necessarily in love with them. And I may love my younger siblings but I may not always trust them because they stole my cookies way-back-when...It is a strange concept, but I think it is plausible.

Marriages are mostly based on trust and in my opinion that's what Cupid was looking for when he decided to hide himself from Psyche. The story was overall arduous towards Psyche and her struggle to find love but the most important point was to trust the person that loved her. Many marriages nowadays are ended because the trust is lost between the two people that trust is usually lost when someone close to somebody in a relationship starts to raise questions of what the other person is doing and they do that because their life isn't going where they want it to go or because they are jealous. Venus' jealousy was what caused Psyche's love to grow stronger because she couldn't forgive herself for not trusting Cupid and she was willing to do anything to get him back.

I agree with what Cherry said, love and trust come hand in hand. I think trust is absolutely necessary to have a successful relationship; anyone can have a relationship, but unless there is trust it is an artificial relationship. Especially in romantic relationships this is crucial. As the book says, "Love cannot live where there is no trust". Trust is so important because if there isn't any that leads to jealousy and that ruins relationships. Therefore, I think Cupid is completely correct in saying that love can't happen without trust because you can never rely on someone if you don't trust them.

The story of Cupid and Psyche was totally dependent on the concept of trust. Psyche's story was just a bleak example of our modern day marriages, and how if trust isn't a top priority, things can break to pieces. I totally agree with Sarah that trust and love come hand in hand. Without one, the other cannot be successful. Today, as mentioned by other posts, marriages unfortunatly don't last as long because the relationship is lacking trust. In my mind, Psyche experienced what she did to teach us what not to do, and to prove that trust is a benefical factor to having a successful relationship with anyone.

The story between Cupid and Psyche i thin was a correct representation of trust in relationships. If you truly love someone and they truly love you back you should be able to trust their judgment in almost all situations. However "true love" is a rare commodity these days and everyone has their problems that other people might not be able to accept

The story of Psyche and Cupid demonstrates the importance of the idea that love can not exist where there is no trust. I agree with cherry when she said that you can love someone like a family member but not necesarily trust them, and that you can trust someone but not "love them". However if you are in a relationship with another person, and there is no trust, then you have nothing.

The story Pshyche and Cupid gave a different view of love and trust than i expected. In todays society, trust is a key factor in a successful relationship, and without it there are many broken hearts. In order for someone to trust you, i believe that you must first trust in them. This is very similar to Pshyche's love for Cupid. But the topic of love and trust can vary greatly between everyone. According to Renita Weems, “Love means exposing yourself to the pain of being hurt, deeply hurt by someone you trust.”

trust is the most important part of a relationship, relationships are built on trust. the story of cupid and psyche proved this statement. i agree with the quote sarah used when she said 'Love cannot live where there is no trust' if you love someone you should be able to trust them and not have the need to test them. if you dont trust someone, how do you know you really love them?

I really like what Cherry says about trust and love existing without eachother and agree with that. In the case of Cupid and Psyche I think that trust is very important to Cupid and when Pysche is persuaded by her sisters and decides to see what her husband looks like, she betrays this trust. I think both trust and love both need to be present in marriage but not in every relationship.

I really enjoyed this story about love and trust. Though I do agree with everyone that love and trust come hand in hand, I also think you can love someone without the trust. I know that trust is probably the number one most important thing in a relationship, but i know many people that are in love with the person that they don't trust, whether it be cheating or just lying, people still look past this flaw and try to work through it. For some reason many people think that trust can be won back with lots of dedication, commitment and love, and all the sudden trust will come back into the relationship. In the story, Psyche believes in this theory and tries to win back Cupid's love by showing him how much she cares, in the end it works out for them, but that is not how it happens in real life. Even though the significant other works hard and tries to earn back the trust, the accusation will always be in the back of the mind. In other words, I do think you can love without trust, but it is not that meaningful of a love relationship without it.

I agree with Cherry, love and trust come hand in hand. There can be relationships without trust, but what kind of relationship would that be? A true relationship has trust. Marriages can end because there is a lack of trust and/or a lack of love. Psyche should have trusted Cupid, she shouldn't have listened to her sisters. That is another reason why relationships today can't be successful, gossip/rumors ruin the trust a person has for another. Psyche would have trusted Cupid until her sisters came along and put the idea in her head not to trust him. When you love someone, trust comes naturally.

I agree with what Kari said. The most important part of any relationship is trust. But trust does not necessarily go hand in hand with love. Psyche should have not lost her trust for cupid just because of what her sisters said. I believe that trust should not be lost because of an outsiders input into your relationship. Trust should only be gained or lost in person or through direct actions of the people involved. I think the people that you love in life should naturaly be the people you trust the most. Love cannot exist without trust.

Just like Psyche found out, if you are not truthful in a relationship it will cost you. If you breat trust though and you are truely in love you will eventually be forgiven and everything will be okay. This is what happend to Psyche and The God of Love after many years. It is best just to be truthful the one you love in the first place instead of breaking truth and having to prove that you can be trusted again. If Psyche listened to her husbend in the first place and trusted what he was saying about not letting her sisters come then none of that would have happened in the first place.

The Cupid and Psyche myth says taht there is no trust in a relationship. Psyche is influenced by her sisters into believing her husband is a wicked creature. She does not trust her instincts as to her husband being good. Venus also doesn't trust. She doesnt trust Psyche. She puts Psyche through horrible tests to prove that she is untrustworthy. Relationships should be based in trust. Not on what other people hear, or think

I believe that the cupid and psyche story really can connect to the relations of two married people. One must be willing to trust the other through any circumstance. I think that psyche should've confronted cupid if she really did believe that he was a monster. She should have just trusted him, he truly did love her and he gave her a chance when no other man would. I'm just saying that he trusted her to be his wife, and he loved her. To sum it up trust was truly the key to this story.

Marriages cannot work without trust, this is built when the two have a connection that will eventually build into love. I think trust is a result of love, it you truly love the person you will trust them to do what is right. If there is no attraction, then there will not be trust. everyone I consider friends or higher I trust. I feel sorry for Cupid and Psyche because without all the outside forces their love would have had trust. It is possible but rarely there will be true love and no trust.

I thinks the myth of Cupid and Psyche is a story portraying an ideal world. Where love cannot live without trust. That being said, I think trust makes love that much stronger, and without trust, love can easily fall apart. Most of the time in the real world, however, once trust is broken, love remains, but fades quickly.

I completely agree with it. If you have no trust then you cant be in a relationship. That is just how it works. In this story she trusted her evil envious sisters over her husband she loved. He was a normal hansom guy and she thought he was an evil serpent of Apollo. When in reality he was charming cupid god of love.
If Psche would have just trusted him when he said his sisters would be the end of her . He told her and taught her that trust and truth is the heart of love and without it there is no such thing as aa relationship or love.

Marriage and Trust do not necessarily go hand in hand because of a multitude of possibilities. For example, a promiscuous couple could have a child and get married thereafter for the child's sake, although a trusting relationship is far healthier than a disloyal companionship. I think it's healthier because of the stressed involved in an [ill-trusting?] relationships that isn't associated with the trustworthy ones. So i think (strictly speculating since I have never been married), that although trust and marriage can coexist without each other, a loyal marriage results in a better relationship between the partners.

I don't believe that love and trust come hand in hand with each other. I do think that you have to trust someone before you start to love them.

I think that Marriages is too based on trust and many marriages end because the love is lost. There always has to be trust in relationships and i think that she was letting her jealousy get in the way of love. So he didn't get to be with her because she was to stupid to see that he was not doing anything.

I agree with what pretty much everyone else has said about trust. I thinks it's a very important part of every relationship, and is in some ways even more important than love. This story shows a lot about the two. Although Cupid's and Venus' relationship seems to begin with trust they don't share love. Their relationship is able to survive without love. Out of trust love can grow but trust is necessary to start the relationship. Without trust a relationship is unable to survive. In the story, when Venus believes her sisters and mistrusts Cupid, their relationship crumbles. I agree with the line from the big that Sarah quoted "Love cannot live where there is no trust," which shows just how important trust really is.

Psyche and Cupid is a classical example of humans chasing ideals ranging from love to truth to forgiveness. Trust is fundamental when forming and maintaining relationships. Relationships built on lies are bound to crumble like sand castles; waves of truth always come washing. It is interesting how we chase what runs away, things like truth beckon our souls yet we as humans continually deal in lies. Such stupidity of being is so widely unaccounted for, yet so lovely nonetheless. This human condition we all vividly live is very well captured in the anthropomorphic aspect of greek mythology.

i completely agree that in marriage, love and trust go hand in hand. As when time comes when one cannot trust the other, then love will automatically fades away.

The story about cupid and psyche and cupid was an interesting story. The story was souly based on trust. So, can you have love without trust ? I think not. Trust basically strings together with trust. Trust is a key element in a relationship, just like in cupid and psyche case. I agree with carlos s when he says thats what cupid is basically looking for.
