Who Can You Trust III?

What is your reaction to the Cupid And Psyche myth's proclaimation about "trust" within relationships?

Both individuals in a relationship need to trust one another for there to be true love. Psyche did not trust Cupid, therefore Cupid ran away and lost his love for her, but after Psyche proved she really did love Cupid by serving Venus, he came back and married her. They had trust again in their relationship, so there was love also.

I think you can love someone without trust but for the relationship to work trust is needed. Once the trust has been broken, as in the myth i think it can be regained if you prove yourself trustworthy again.

I Think that trust is a necessity to relationships also, like psyche couldnt trust her eyes cause she could only see cupid at night and when she turns the light on and shatters the trust within the two the realationship parishes until
it was restored later by psyche.

Love is possible without trust, and a lack of trust can lead to jealousy which can develope an even greater love. Trust is needed however to have a lasting relationship. Many people can never fully trust again after their trust has been broken but Cupid wasn't one of them. The ability to regain trust could also strengthen the relationship however.

Love can survive without trust, certainly. There is simply a price. If you do not trust who you love, at all, things will be difficult and you may grow suspicious, and they of you. Despite your love for each other, you will grow apart, and it's your own fault. There are certain special circumstances I suppose, where a relationship would be able to flourish without trust. For example, if you are suspicious that your significant other is, let's say, putting money into a secret bank account. You could be perfectly content not trusting them and not nosing into their buisness and still be capable of love.

I agree with Margaux that you don't necessarily need trust to love someone, but to make a relationship work you do need trust or it falls apart. However I do disagree that if you break that trust it cannot be repaired completely. I think this because there is always a doubt whether or not they can be completely trusted again.

Trust is a key componet in a realtionship, it's like your missing a leg of a tripod. Sure somethings might be holding the relationship up, love, communicaton, but without trust it can fall just like it did with Cupid an Psyche. You can always repair a relationship by "proving yourself" but it will never really be the same again. There will always be some type of distrust in the relationship, not the way its said to be in this story where everyone lives happily ever after.

I think now adays many relationships can survive without trust. I think that trust has twindled downover time. Trust could mean 100% loyalty, always do what they say, never go against them on the extreme side. On the other side i trust my sister but only to a certain extent, if i told her something she really didnt like she would most likely tell my mom. So love can exist withiut trust, it just depends what kind of trust you believe in.

When you "love" someone you don't trust, you are more so just falling for someone. And once you have broken that trust, it definitly is hard to repair what you can. Cupid and Psyche teaches you that you can always earn trust, But it takes a lot of effort for true love.

I believe that trust is vital to a healthy relationship. If there is not trust how can there be love? there would be a constant cloud of doubt in the relationship. Trust is like the glue in a relationship.

Trust is like finding a diamond, it only happens ever so rarely. When you find someone you can actually trust a sense of well being and calm flows over you and evrything you do. Can love live where there is no trust? Yes, but wht kind of love? family love, yes.
lustful love, yes. True love, no. True love the "diamond" is the one you really want. That is ehy love cannot live where the is no trust.

As mentioned before, love can live where there is no trust. I have a friend who loves his girlfriend very much, but she's jealous and kinda keeps him on a short leash. I mean, she loves him too but clearly she doesn't trust him enough to let him be more independent. That's not ideal, though. I'd much rather have both love and trust because I'd get jaded with the relationship very quickly if I couldn't trust my partner.

Trust and love both go hand-in-hand within a relationship. One can lose trust in the other, but if he or she regains the trust, the love is rekindled. In my opinion, neither love nor trust can be completely lost in most cases, as long as each person is willing to give some effort in the positive direction. And if the relationship is going to be one of quality, trust is needed.

Trust is a necessary component in any relationship, and it is easy to give and recieve. What most people struggle with is being trustWORTHY. they struggle against some mental block which blinds them to the feelings of the other person, making it into some great enigma. So it is true that love cannot live where there is no trust, but there is always trust between lovers, they simply cannot see it through their insecurities.

If there is no trust in a realtionship, there is nothing really holding that realtionship together.

In some relationships love cannot exist where there is no trust but in some relationships you dont need trust but to like em for who they are.

It makes it hard to love when trust is absent in a relationship. In Cupid and Psyche's story, when Cupid states that, "Love cannot exist where there is no trust", he seems to be asking a lot of Psyche when he demands that he not be seen by her. He was building trust with Psyche, and their story told of just how difficult that trust is to build and maintain, and how easy it is to break. According to myth, Cupid found Psyche even after all trust in their relationship was gone and that, "It was a difficult matter to keep love imprisoned". So, even though their trust was broken, they found, that in the end, they still loved one another.

In simplest terms, I don't believe love can exist without trust. A relationship that contains no trust can possibly last for a short length of time, but in the long run, love will not survive. Trust is what has been referred to as the "basis of all and any relationship", and I think that is so very true. Love does not live amongst disloyalty, dishonor, nor disgrace, for it is too precious, too good a gift. Love is something given to humans that is pure, but we as humans tend to degrade everything we touch. Without trust there is no comfort, no security, no purpose, nor guidence. Without trust, love is lost, wandering throughout our darkened world, left in search of our hearts.

I also agree with Margaux; Psyche loved cupid but always longed to see his face, but when she finally brought herself to see it he showed her that in order for him to love her back there must be trust in their relationship.

In a one-way relationship love can exist without trust. If you happen to be on either end you do not have to trust somebody in order to love them, but then if the relationship goes both ways then trust must exist. For without the trust in that type of relationship there is no foundation for love to build upon.
