i believe that the story of cupid and psych is a great example of how trust is such a main factor in a relationship. without trust it would be too unstable to be happy. a relationship is built from trust. trust is like the base of a house. a house cant stand unless there is a base to hold it up.
I agree that the story of Cupid and Psyche displayed how a good relationship cannot exist without trust. Although love cannot exist without trust, I thought it was unrealistic of Cupid to ask Pysche to love him without ever having seen him. I suppose after a while she would begin to trust him just through his personality, but at first it would be hard. Perhaps this story also has a lesson about vanity held within since Psyche is expected to love without ever having seen her husband.
The myth of Cupid and Psyche demonstrates the frailty of trust. It's hard to build and easy to break. I agree with Erin that it was unrealistic of Cupid to ask Psyche to trust him without knowing anything about him and especially without being able to see him. Although it ends happily, I think if Cupid wanted to have a strong and trusting relationship with Psyche he should have been totally honest from the start. It would have saved them a lot of trouble.
I agree with the story of Cupid and Psych in that you cannot have a steady or stable relationship without trust. Trust is one of the many characteristics that makes a good relationship. I don’t think you can be in a good relationship if there is no trust on one another.
I think love cannot originally be built without trust. But afterwords other things than just trust influence relationships. Wth Cupid's lies and deception it was hard for Psyche to originally trust him. As they grew to spend more time with one another she realized that Cupid had a good personality. It was his personality that she liked not his lies. Some people are to vain to notice the quirks in others but eventually they shine through.
I agree with the story that a healthy and functioning relationship would not work without the element of trust. Trust is a thing that has to be gained over time. You have to build from the start of a relationship. This story is a good example of how that happens.
Even though that I agree, that there must be trust for relationships(in most circumstances), it also seems, that if one party loves another party, that betraying trust isn't that serious. Also when you think about, she never betrayed trust, Cupid/Love never said "don't look at me". If anything it was her sisters who betrayed her, since out of jealous they tried to bring ruin to her.
The story of Cupid and Psyche shows us that no relationship can last without trust. If trust is ever broken it is hard to rebuild it and earn it back. Cupid asked for Psyche to love him but it was difficult because there was not a trust built up yet. They never knew eachother previous to this. It turned out to work because they gained eachothers' trust.
In the movie The Wedding Planner, one character describes how arranged marriages work, first comes trust, then friendship, and lastly love. I feel like any relationship, whether it be profesional or romantic, without trust has nothing meaningful or unsuperficial about it. Trust is hard to build and easy to brake, and once broken, for many people, is gone forever. In Cupid and Psyche's case I believe that if there was honesty from the beginning then there wouldn't have been this struggle for Psyche to trust Cupid. In today's society I feel that trust is a rare commodity, and isn't valued as highly as it once was. However to some degree dishonesty has always been around, as showm in this myth.
Trust is the foundation of all relationships, from a father and son to a husband and wife. Without trust, no progress can be made as there is nothing to build off of. Love is a difficult emotion, hard to come by and impossible to measure. Without trust, this simple, yet profound emotion is impossible to find.
I one hundred percent agree with the story of Cupid and Psyche when it says that a successful relationship can't exist without trust. That is one of the major components of a relationship and of "being in love". I agree with Nikki when she said that if Cupid wanted to have a stronger relationship with Psyche, they should have been totally honest from day one. It is always a bad sign when there is dishonesty from the beginning.
I think that trust is completely necessary at all levels of a relationship. Really, if you can't trust someone with something, be that with the relationship itself, doing what they say they will, or just not lieing to you in general, then there's no way it can survive. Admittedly, more stuff is necessary in order to build a relationship, but EVERYTHING is based on trust. You can't know that someone's actually done something unless you trust them. You can't know if they're lieing to you about their past life, or if they're not telling the truth about whether they turned off all the lights in the house or shut the garage door. It's the small stuff and the big things that require trust. Even trusting them to be themselves around you is a part of trust. Everything in a relationship is based on it. In that, the story did a good job of explaining how a good relationship cannot exist without it. Cupid, at the beginning, didn't tell the truth, and things didn't exactly work out. When things started becoming clear, they ended up getting better. Trust is completely necessary, and is the basis for absolutely everything else in a relationship.
I agree that trust is the key to having a lasting relationship between anyone. I think that without trust you can't truly love someone. I agree that Cupid shouldn't have hid himself and that he would have gotten Psych's trust sooner if she had seen him. However, I think that it was interesting for him to hide from her because it shows just how much trust is needed in relationships from both sides.
The story of Cupid and Psych is a testiment to the idea that there is someone for everyone. Even Cupid the matchmaker of humanity, falls in love himself. This is significant in explaining the power of love and the impact it can have on people's lives. The trust between two people who fall in love is the unspoken agreement that there love is true and anfailing.
I agree that the story shows that trust plays a big role in a relationship.Personally I think that with out trust it is near impossible to have a relationship.
I think that relationships are built on trust and without it there really can't be love. Cupid was asking a lot of Psyche by asking her to love him without ever actually seeing him. However, he could have been testing her to see if she was trustworthy. She clearly broke her promise because curiosity got the best of her but they still ended up together; probably because she regained his trust.
I agree with what most everyone is saying. its really hard to have love and a loving relationship if one or both people don't trust the other. i think that you could still have a type of love though without trust, but it is more of a lust than real love. I guess that its possible to appear to have love without trust, but it is just a mask, and truly you are only covering up, the distrust, and dishonesty in the relationship. Just like in the myth of Cupid and Psyche when Psyche loses Cupid's trust it is hard for him to truly love her, although, like in the myth i do believe that you can regain trust, although it is hard and you have to really want it.
Throughout the story of Cupid and Psyche aspects and relationships concerning elements of trust can be seen through lovers, friends and family members. This story implements the idea that trust is not only important between a man and a woman but also between someone and their friends, sisters, and even their mothers. Therefore the message that this story is trying to portray is that trust is a necessary component in every relationship.
The myth Cupid and Psyche is good example of relationship and the trust involved. I agree with Erin, it was an unrealist request of Cupid to ask Pysche to not look at him. I don't really understand that but because she disobeyed him she had to show him she really loved him. She gained his trust back and they will but happy as long as they can trust eachother.
I do agree that you you need trust to start a relationship, but thats not the only thing you need. Just because you trust somebody doesn't mean you get married on the spot (unless you're really desperate i suppose). You also need respect for yourself and the other person, this is one reason Cupid and Psyche were doomed from the start he didn't respect her integrity he was all like, "she'll only want me for my bod!?!", and she didn't respect his wishes she was all "what if he's really ugly, I don't think I could like handle that." So anyway i do agree that you need trust but I don't think thats a deal maker.
To me there cannot be a relationship, wether it be romantic or just a friendship, without trust. Trust is the foundation of any relationship. the story of Cupid and Psyche is a perfect example of how significant the role trust plays. Love and trust go hand in hand, you cannot have one without the other.
I think that for a relationship to be successful trust must be present there. The story of cupid and psyche was a perfect example of how trust plays a huge part to a good relationship. I think that cupid asking psyche to never look at him was really dumb because knowing what your lover looks like is pretty important and cupid should have known it was eventually going to happen. In all trust is the building blocks to a successful relationship!
This is karlye holmes. i think taht the relationship between cupid and phyche is good but it will not survive without trust. There is nothing without trust and you can not start anything without trust. It is hard to trust someone you do not know but you can not start anything without trust.
Cupid and Psyche mirrors the critical nature of trust in any relationship. As the myth tends to paint Psyche as nothing more than a curious woman, it becomes necessary to understand how the myth is a reflection of what a Greek bride would be expected to do. Marriages in Ancient Greece were typically arranged, so the bride had little control over who she would marry. She would then leave her home and go to live with her husband; it was unlikely she would ever see anyone she had known growing up again. The bride was, in a metaphoric sense, expected to "die" to herself and then be "reborn" to her husband. With this in mind, the myth of Cupid and Pysche takes on a much more metaphoric meaning. Pysche's being offered up as a sacrifice becomes seen as the beginning of the marriage; she had no say in it, would never again see her family, and would die as the person she was. The myth serves as a code for brides to follow. While it overtly emphasizes how a bride must be completely faithful to her husband's commands, it subtly hints at how women are curious and warns husband's to maintain firm control of their wives. We simply expect trust to form in our relationships, but the myth of Cupid and Psyche (particularly to the Greeks) shows how trust must be built and maintained.
Cupid is not a very manly figure, and he is un-reasonable in his requirement of trust. Nonetheless trust is very important to any relationship. Psych should reconsider her choice of someone so demanding, but since she knew and agreed to what he required she should have honored the trust in the relationship. Overall trust is one of the most vital things in a relationship, and I agree that there cannot be a good relationship without trust.
I think that it is impossible to have a fully commmited relationship for most people without having trust they need to know a person front and back and have to fully have their answers when asked. One thing contridictory to that is that Psyche liked Cupid before she knew who he was even though he was lying to her and she loved him after she found out that he had lied to her, and he loved her back after she lied and betrayed him.
I believe with a majority of the people on here that you can't have love with out trust. If you are always worrying about if your significant other is going to hurt you how could you love them. It would be like trying to love a dog that has tendencies to bite off hands.
It makes it hard to love when trust is absent in a relationship. In Cupid and Psyche's story, when Cupid states that, "Love cannot exist where there is no trust", he seems to be asking a lot of Psyche when he demands that he not be seen by her. He was building trust with Psyche, and their story told of just how difficult that trust is to build and maintain, and how easy it is to break. According to myth, Cupid found Psyche even after all trust in their relationship was gone and that, "It was a difficult matter to keep love imprisoned". So, even though their trust was broken, they found, that in the end, they still loved one another.
In simplest terms, I don't believe love can exist without trust. A relationship that contains no trust can possibly last for a short length of time, but in the long run, love will not survive. Trust is what has been referred to as the "basis of all and any relationship", and I think that is so very true. Love does not live amongst disloyalty, dishonor, nor disgrace, for it is too precious, too good a gift. Love is something given to humans that is pure, but we as humans tend to degrade everything we touch. Without trust there is no comfort, no security, no purpose, nor guidence. Without trust, love is lost, wandering throughout our darkened world, left in search of our hearts.
I do belive that trust is one of the main factors in a realtionship, but communtication is another in a realtionship. I can't blame psych for seeing what her mysterious lover (cupid) looked like. Although, Pysch should have trusted her husband rather than her sisters you should always put your husband or wife first, not your jealous sisters. I guess in the end, without communication there is no trust
The story of Cupid and Psych has a great life lesson to it. Yes indeed there is no love/relationship without trust. But does this mean that you have to be head over heals for someone to have trust in a relationship? Trust comes from love, and love comes from trust and affection, there can't be one without the other.
i believe that what the myth says is true. there must be trust for love to flourish. love itsilf is a form of trust. you allow someone to become such a large part of your life their every whim and worry affects you. so you need to trust that they won't hurt you in the first place. so love needs trust. if trust is violated, it is the one who was violateds' duty to at the very least hear their love out. but if their intentions weren't noble, or the action which hurt them was intentional, the trust was a fallacy.
