Who can You Trust?

What is your reaction to the Cupid And Psyche myth's proclaimation about "trust" within relationships?

"Love cannot live where there is no trust"(Hamilton, p.129). I believe this shows that the ancient Greeks thought that any relationship must contain a foundation of trust to truly be called true love. Unlike this day and age, when even the most decimated of relationships (like Zeus and Hera's) can pass as love.

I feel that this myth of Cupid and Psyche is a way to show how trust is needed in a relationship. Psyche's mistake by not trusting her husband caused the whole relationship to fail. This is a good exaggeration about what the Greeks want to say and how they feel about relationships in real life. I completely agree that trust is the base of a relationship. You must be able to trust your husband or wife to keep the relationship going. In this current time trust is sometimes mistaken and many relationships fall apart, which proves the reason the Greeks told this myth.

Trust is the fundemental value to success in any relationship. Without trust a partnership is doomed to fail. This was clearly evident by the way Psyche did not trust Cupid, and thus there "love" failed. I would also have to completely agree with the statement made by Ms. Foyle when she said, "Unlike this day and age, when even the most decimated of relationships (like Zeus and Hera's) can pass as love." This is a remarkably truthful statement that sheds light on how far our society has slipped in terms of what we consider love to be. Love is more than just a feeleng, love is a verb. It involves trust and hardwork in order to survive. Love is waking up after fifty years of marriage and still adoring the person next to you. Trust is fundemental in a relationship and without trust there is simply not "true love."

Trust is one of the biggest foundations for a successful relationship. In order to pursue the person of your choice you have to trust them with your feelings and thoughts. If their is no trust than the relationship will fall to the ground because you will never stop asking questions and making up fake scenarios. The Greeks were right on because if there is no trust then false accusations will arise.

Mr. Craigo
When it comes to the myth of Cupid and Psyche trust is a big issue that comes along with this myth. I agree with Dustin F. on how trust is needed in order to have a successful relationship. And how Psyche did not trust her husband witch caused the relationship to come to an end. I am a strong believer in trust, if you don’t have trust with your significant other than the relationship will not last.

I think it is interesting because it seemed like Cupid trusted Psyche, but not the other way around. It is apparent that in order for a relationship to work, both people need to trust each other equally.

Trust is HUGE in any serious relationship. I believe there is absolutly no way any couple can survive unless they trust eachother. Even years and years ago the ancient greeks understood this concept. It's unbelieveable that even though the times have changed so much, ideas such as in the story are still always true.

Many of the the relationships between the gods have had the trust distroyed. Cupid and Psyche are just another example of that. Like others said it's found in Zeus and Hera's relationships as well. This story shows how much you need to trust the people you love or the relationship will fall apart. Psyche got lucky in her ending, but for others who betray the trust they will not get as lucky. Trust is the base of a relationship

Trust is the number one factor regarding a relationship, it is the basis of life also. When trust is absent the everything falls apart and you feel like a part of your life is missing. Psyche should have trusted Cupid and should have not jumped to conclusions. But this is human nature and we have to go with it and see where it brings us.

Trust within relationships is absolutely crucial. Psyche's distrust in Cupid was a prime example of how a lack of trust can lead to hardships. Trust is so vital to all relationships everywhere because without trust you are simply worried all the time and in turn quite stressed and unhappy. I agree with afoyle when he refers to the quote, "Love cannot live where there is no trust"(129). I absolutely agree with this quote, simply because it’s true that love cannot exist without the trust of one another.

I think that trust is the foundation to any kind of relationship. The lack of trust can lead to other feelings and actions such as jealousy, betrayal, and confrontation. Because Psyche has no trust in Cupid, he ends up becoming upset which causes many other problems. I personally think that if you’re worried about trust in your relationship then you need to talk to that person. To love someone unconditionally means to have trust in them. Trust is a key component and without it love is lost.

"Love cannot live where there is no trust" (129). I completely agree with this sentiment. A relationship, regardless of whether it is platonic or romantic, requires both parties to make an effort to strengthen the relationship. Trust is a key element, for it shows that one is willing to allow themselves to be vulnerable for the sake of the relationship.

Trust is the most important thing . Without trust you can not have a healthy relationship, it just wont work out. The myth of Cupid and Psyche is a way to show how trust is needed in a relationship. Psyche mistake was that she did not trust her husband caused the whole relationship to fail. This proves my point that inorder to have a relationship you need trust

I believe that there is no possible way to love without trust. I don't think that you can love without being able to know that your partner is off with someone else. True love requires many critical elements including trust; otherwise, like with cupid and psyche, the relationship will fail.

Personally, I think that trust is one the most important foundatins of a relationship. If there is no trust, what can you base the rest of the relationship off of? In the myth of Cupid and Psyche, this theory is never more clear. When Psyche doubts Cupid and loses his trust, their relationship completely falls apart. But when she works hard to earn his trust back, their relationship ends up working out.

I think that Cupid and Psyche show us that trust is needed in a relationship. The whole relationship collapsed once Psyche looked at Cupid's face. Also I think that this myth shows us that when two people love each other they can recover from broken trust. They still wanted to be with each other after that happened and they made it happen.

This myth is a true example of the fact that love is essential to any working relationship.Trust is a foundation and without it nothing can stand.Though Cupid trusted Psyche she did not do the same and as a result lost the love of Cupid. Her tasks to regain his love also show how valuble trust is and how far someone will go to gain it.

Love is impossible without trust. It's pretty much what love is, trusting someone to be who they say they are, to treat you right and not do anything to hurt you. Without trust in a relationship it's nothing. Just two people talking about unimportant things that don't really matter. Love can't exist when all you talk about is people and the weather.

Trust is a vegue concept. You can always trust anyone to do what they feel is necesary. But you can only trust a loved one to do what you feel is necesary. So I disagree with the statement "Love cannot live where there is no trust."

After reading the Cupid and Psyche myth I didn't take into account how much trust factored into a relation ship, just like in the story how without trust there is no relationship. After reading this myth I'll take into trust in relationships more into account.

When we discussed this in class we talked about if their could be a relationship without trust. Everyone in the group basicly agreed that no their cannot be a relationship without trust. personally i can relate because in some of my own relationships their has not been trust but it has worked out, others where it has not but ultmatly i think that in order for a relationship to truly work their has to be trust. now i think that their can be a fake relationship without trust, but it will never be real without trust.

I believe that the first comment says it all in the quote from the book. The biggest thing i get from the myth is the importantance of trust in a realtionship. Especially when the relationship begins to grow in depth. If you can't trust things that the partner in the realtionship is telling you whats it really worth. the depth and meaning of it disappears. Its hard to gain trust but easy to lose it.

This story shows how the greeks potrayed love by showing how love can still be there without even seeing who you love. basicaly the greeks saw love as being blind and unknowing.
