The Simpson's parodies the odyssey by adding in their own characters to fill the roles of the characters in the story. It relates with the actual story by showing some aspects of what Odysseus had to go through on his journey home such as the sirines how they lured his men into the island. But in the actual story he had his men fill their ears with wax and tie him to the mast of the ship so only he could listen to their beautiful song and not go criminally insane. The main heroic code Odysseus uses is bravery. No other man ever has been as brave as he was. It takes great bravery and courage to become a hero.
The Simpsons video is a satire of the Odyssey and heroes in Greek mythology because it makes fun of how the gods have such a huge impact on the lives of common man. The gods have the power to help people or throw them way off course, like Zeus and Poseidon did with Homer. Homer has heroic qualities because he overcomes all of the obstacles that the gods make to make his journey more difficult. He desires to be recognized for his journeys.
The Simpsons video clip was a parody of the Odyssey because when they go to the island where the sirens are, they realize that the sirens are ugly but they do not actually represent the ones in the book. The sirens were just ugly not part bird. When they go to the other island and Homer (Odysseus) eat his friends, they made that funny instead of sad and it is quite hilarious how they turn something as dreadful as the trip in the Odyssey into something as hilarious as the Simpsons. One thing from the heroic code is when the sorcerer helps Homer on her island. She tells him that he must go through Hades because he disposed of his friends for her.
This video clip is a parody of The Odessey and Greek Mythology heros because it tells the story, but in a way that is more humorous and easy to understand. The way that the heros and poem are portrayed is more or less in a comical way. This clip is obviously not serious and was made to teach people who would rather see something funny about Greek Mythology. For example, when he arrives home, he is welcomed back by a group of men trying to get his wife. This is not the best guest/host relationship. It is quite obvious that this is a parody that was used to explain something "boring" in a more humorous way.
Homer and his friends were out adventuring, and when they finished what they were doing, they tried to go home. The God posseidon kept redirecting their boat so they would have to do more trials. Influence from the Gods were a common thing in Greek Myth, and it was considered good luck.
This Simpsons' video included many of the journeys made in The Odyssey. Examples would be with the sirens and the sorceress. We also see the power the Gods have over the outcome of Homers quest. Homer is the leader of the ship and one specific characteristic seen from the Heroic Code would be a hero does not want to lose face or honor. If Homer had never returned be would have lost his honor but he finally got home and defended his honor.
The Simpson’s video clip was relevant to The Odyssey and other Greek hero’s. Some of the hero’s involved included Zeus, Poseidon, and others. The Simpson’s followed closely to The Odyssey. It showed how Poseidon threw Odysseus off course, and how he ran into some obstacles along the way. One of the obstacles he encountered were the sirens. Their sweet songs lured Odysseus and his crew to their island, but then attacked and hurt them. The crew cried and shouted about how they were hurting their eyes. This scene was addressed in both The Simpson’s and The Odyssey. The Simpsons showed the hardships of Penelope, and how she was heartbroken that her husband had been away for twenty long years. Heroic code was shown through Odysseus, because he was strong and led his crew through most of the journey. He also is searching for honor and gains some of this honor through his journey.
The Simpsons video clip is a parody of The Odyssey. In The Odyssey, Odysseus tries to be apart of the warrior society. He goes on many adventures, and when he finally returns home, he tells everyone what he experienced. He wanted to be recognized. In The Simpsons, it is completely opposite. Homer, who acts as Odysseus, does not want to be recognized. When he finally returns home from his journey, he is asked to tell his stories, and he refuses. In The Simpsons, Odysseus does not want to be recognized. The Simpsons is a parody of The Odyssey because of the lack of heroic code.
The Simpsons video is a parody of the Odyssey because it shows all the same acts that were committed in the Odyssey except with different characters and stupidity. It shows that they were stirred off course by the gods, and were sent into the sea of sirens with the magic music of the half girl, half birds singing their empowering tune. Ugly but have beautiful voices. The way that "homer" made "marge" wait for him to return for 20 years. "Homer" eats his friends was different since that was funny instead of sad, and the woman told him that he was eating his friends but was so hungry, and just didn't care. She told him to go through Hades because he had eaten his friends. Bravery and Courage is needed for a great hero, without that you can't be a good hero without taking risks.
"The Simpsons" is a parody of "The Odyssey" because it makes a lot of jokes about the journey of Odysseus throughout the video clip. At the time where Homer (the Simpsons character, not the poet) and his friends come across the sirens, they should have been lured in by their voices and looks, but instead the sirens were Homer's sisters-in-law, who are made put to be hideous in the normal show itself. Another point that satarized "The Oddysey" was when Homer needed to travel through Hell to return home to Ithica, but when he was going through it, there were dancing and fighting skeletons with what sounded like a bad song playing in the background, making fun of how horrible it was to be in Hell. Also, Odysseus wanted to keep hos honor by returning yo Ithica and coming back to his wife, whereas when Homer returned to Ithica and his wife, he left her to go to Moe's to get away from her asking questions about his journey.
The Simpson's makes a parody of the Odyssey by turning rather grim and sad subjects humorous. For example, when Homer and his friends arrive at the island, and are turned into pigs, and Homer eats them all, it's seen as more of a comedy than a tragedy. Also, when it showed Homer and everyone else, sailing back home, Poseidon kept sending their ship in a different direction. The Simpson's were able to take a serious and mundane subject, and turn it into something very entertaining and humorous.
The Simpsons video is a parody of the Odyssey because it is making fun of a lot of the characters, and also making something that was a perilous journey into something funny. One example of how it was made fun of was the gods in Olympus. They were completely opposite of the perfect gods in our myth text. An example of the heroic code element is how Homer felt worthy of having his wife Penelope back once he got home (Feel worthy/ pursue what they do best). He felt that even though he was gone so long on his journey he still deserved to have his wife back and the suitors didn't.
The Simpsons video is a satire of the Odyssey and heroes in Greek mythology because it makes fun of how the gods have such a huge impact on the lives of common man. The Gods do a lot with human interaction, and that affects how the events that they're involved in. When Homer was on his way back to Ithaca, Poseidon kept sending him back, which affected his life and the life of his family. Influence from the Gods was a common thing in Greek mythology, and it was considered good luck.
The Simpson’s clip satirizes the Odyssey by replacing the actual characters in the story with the characters of the show and illustrating the Simpsons personalities in response to the actual events in the Odyssey. It also portrays the role of the gods in man’s life and how the god’s played with the humans and the men thought it was destiny. The heroic code is illustrated in the clip when Homer pokes the giant’s eye and then with his excessive pride screams his true identity to the giant who happened to be Poseidon’s son. In response, Poseidon as satirized, blows the boat around like its a game of pinball, until after many years Homer returns home where he spears five men with one blow.
The Simpsons video clip was a parody of the Odyssey and the heroes and here are some reason why. The first reason why would be it makes fun of how the gods have such a huge impact on the lives of common man. The gods have the power to help people or throw them way off course, like Zeus and Poseidon did with Homer. They don't realize how much these gods help people because they can help them through war and a whole lot of other things to keep them safe. Homer has very heroic because he overcomes all of the obstacles that the gods make to make his journey more difficult. He desires to be recognized for his journeys and what he had accomplished.
The Simpsons parodies the story by taking these serious events and turning them into a joke. They made jokes of how when they got close to home the gods flicked the ship sending them way off. Or when he ate his friends they made Homer who played the role of Oddyssieus and he stated they tasted like his friends, and then she said I have been trying to tell you that for the past hour. Then they also made a joke of how Atlantis was destroyed when they missed the boat with a lightning bolt.Homer does display heroic qualities even though it is done in a humorous way.
